       


ORGANIC FOOD INGREDIENTS
We have done our best to source organic
ingredients in Shanghai for the fresh food
that
we prepare.
PROPORTION OF ORGANIC
At any one time roughly 90% of our ingredients
are organic. We have not been able to find 100%
of
the food ingredients available in Shanghai
organically. For example, we have been unable
to source organic Parmesan cheese in Shanghai.
But the vast majority of the ingredients we use
to prepare food at Organic Kitchen
are organic.
And please note that when we cannot find a
required ingredient as wholly organic
we
sometimes will purchase food with a
"GREEN" certification to replace it until
the organic ingredient is available again.
BREADS
We use outsourced organic panini
and toast
for our sandwiches. And we make our own
pita bread, wraps bread and manoush pizzas from
certified organic flour. Thus, all of our breads
are organic.
VEGETABLES
We use only organic vegetables.
Our menu
often does not specify which vegetables
are
in a particular dish because we know that certain
organic vegetables are not available year-round. Thus,
we substitute vegetables that are available.
For our salads, we use a variety of organic lettuces,
tomatoes, carrots, spinach, etc.
MEATS
We use organic chicken (not
pumped
full of
growth hormones and fed on natural feed)
& we
use organic beef. We have been unable to
consistently
source other organic meats/fish.
Hence, the lack of
other meats and fish on our menu.
WATER
Organic Kitchen Shanghai always uses Nongfu
Springs Water, tested as one of the cleanest
and best sources of water in China for our
soups and all of our cooking.
COOKING OIL
We always try to go lite on cooking oils,
as Chinese restaurants often
over-
use oil.
When a recipe requires us to use oil, we use
a
lite amount
of organic camelia or
canola
oil
for cooking Chinese
food. These oils have been
reviewed as two of the healthiest and safest oils
on the market today.
We use organic extra virgin
olive oil for italian food & hummus, etc.
OTHER INGREDIENTS
We try to use as many different organic
ingredients as we can find. If we can't find
something organically, we try to make it ourselves.
We use organic
sesame seeds to produce
our own fresh
tahini
sauce. And we use
organic beans for our bean salads.
We even use organic chocolate for our chocolate
mousse nirvana and bio-choco-moca mude cake.
NO MSG
Organic Kitchen Shanghai
has a
ZERO MSG policy. We do not put
MSG in any of the dishes, whether they
are Western or Chinese dishes.
