       

Not only have there been problems with milk in
China,
but also many Chinese farmers notoriously
over-spray
pesticides on their crops in order to
produce
better yields and make more money,
regardless
of
the impact it
has
on the
health of consumers.
In April 2009, Greenpeace took 45 samples of
fruits and vegetables from the big supermarket
chains and wet markets in China to be tested.
The findings are frightening.
They found 50 different kinds of pesticides
in 90% of the fruits and vegetables tested.
And some
of the
fruits and vegetabls had
a cocktail of over 10 toxic pesticides.
Of the pesticides found in Chinese produce,
the European Union categorises
38 as
"potential
disruptors of the
hormone system".
Five of the pesticides have
been listed
by
the World Health Organization
(WHO) as
"highly hazardous
pesticides".
Some of the pesticides are banned globally.
Toxic pesticides in fruits and vegetables
cannot be
simply washed
off; they are
within the fruits and vegetables. Ingesting food
filled with toxic chemicals is harmful to our health.
Such pesticide are present in most of the non-
organic food comsumed in China.

1. Keep Chemicals Out Of Our Bodies
Researchers have linked symptoms such as headaches,
tremors,
lack of energy, depression, anxiety, poor memory,
dermatitis, convulsions, nausea, indigestion and diarrhea
with
dietary intakes of pesticides.
2. Help Reduce Pollution / Save the World
Pesticides from farms drift away and affect non-farm
communities with toxic poisons. Poisonous fertilizers
drifting downstream into oceans is the main culprit for
oceanic "dead zones" such as in the Gulf of Mexico,
where the dead zone is now over 22,000 square km.
3. Protect Our Children and Future Generations
Babies are exposed to dozens of toxic chemicals
even before they are born. Children born with deformities
in China have
increased exponentially, at least partly
due to
mothers' ingestion of pesticides in food.
4. More Organic Consumption Encourages Farmers
If more people eat organic foods,
the demand
for toxic, non-organic food will decrease and
farmers will be encouraged to farm organically.
This will also bring the prices of organic food
down. Part of the reason it is more expensive
now is that people do not realise the dangers
and
how important it is to protect our own
health
and the environment.
5. Organic Food Is How Food Is Meant To Be
Organic food is natural. Our ancestors didn't pollute
their bodies and destroy the enviroment with
chemicals
and toxins. Our bodies are meant to eat organic food.
